There used to be three choices in Messages and Message Comments: Plain Text, Markdown, and something else. Now there’s only one, Markdown. Need Plain Text back!

There is an account-wide setting which allows an administrator to specify the “allowed” markup types in the account. It is likely that the plain text option has been unselected causing that option to disappear from the markdown drop-down menus. If you need/want it back, you will need to contact your account administrator.
